The iX3 will start from £61,900 in the base trim – with deliveries to customers expected to begin within Summer 2021.
This isn’t the first time that BMW have introduced electric vehicles into their line-up either. Back in 2014, the BMW i3 was introduced and has since sold over 165,000 units globally.
While the iX3 carries a hefty price tag, it represents a package that is complete.
Initially, the iX3 will be available in two trim levels which are the ‘Premier Edition’, followed up by the ‘Premier Edition Pro’.
The four metallic body paint colours that are available to customers upon the launch are Phytonic Blue, Carbon Black, Mineral White and Sophisto Grey.
Then, there is the innovative drive system, which generates 286 hp and has a peak torque of 295 lb-ft. This means the iX3 can go from 0 to 62 mph in 6.8 seconds - putting it on the same level as its petrol-engined brother, the X3 xDrive30i. The top speed of the iX3 is limited to 112 mph and, very fitting for a BMW, power is sent to the rear wheels. While the 80kWh battery fitted in the iX3 allows for a maximum range of up to 279 miles according to the new WLTP testing.
To put that into context, these are better figures than the main rival’s Audi e-tron has to offer in terms of its range with 252 miles, however, not quite as good when compared to the Jaguar I-Pace which has a max 292 mile range between charges.
Through charging your iX3 at a rapid charging station, you will be able to charge it to 80 per cent of its full capacity in only 34 minutes, while you can pump in 62 miles worth of electricty in just 10 minutes.
BMW’s adaptive energy recuperation system also makes an appearance within this vehicle, including the brands iconic ‘one-pedal driving’ feature, which allows the driver to control the iX3 almost entirely with one pedal whilst the vehicle does most of the stopping for you to maximise energy recovered.
The ‘Premier Edition’ is extremely loaded with kit considering that it is the entry level to iX3 ownership and comes with large 20” black alloys as standard along with an automatic tailgate and a panoramic sunroof to name a few. Step inside the interior and there’s a choice of four Vernasca leathers to choose from, as well as sun protection glazing on the windows, ambient lighting and electric seats as standard.
Additional optional extras include wireless phone charging, heated front seats and the brand’s very latest driver assistance technology, including Driving Assistant Professional, Parking Assistant and BMW Live Cockpit Professional.
If you upgrade the trim level to the £64,900 ‘Premium Pro’ package, you get many different additions that improve upon the base spec are and include things like BMW’s Head-up Display, Harman Kardon surround sound system, Gesture Control and Parking Assistant Plus.
The BMW iX3 is also as practical as its non-electric siblings, with a boot capacity of 510 litres which then increases to a maximum 1,560 litres with the seats down, should you ever need this extra space.
This vehicle is also equipped with BMW’s newest ‘Operating System 7’, which features a 12.3 inch fully digital instrument cluster and a very intuitive 10.25-inch touch infotainment display.
